Aleida's Assessed Thoughts

      This semester was unlike any other, classes online where you zoomed in to learn. Some things were excused because it was a possible truth. Students having the ability to cheat on their tests, turn on/off their cameras, unmute/mute to participate, everything was placed in the palm of our hands. We have to take the initiative to want to learn and participate. Some of those students who didn't attend their class and have done their work were held accountable for their own grades and the opportunity to pass the first-semester classes could slip through their hands if they didn't grasp it fast enough.       However, this course was made easy for us because our instructor had respect and faith in us, the students, that we would do things that made us feel comfortable enough to all respect the teacher in return.  Jean Valjean in this chapter made me believe that he did undergo a change. I've never once read that someone was using learning to convert it to master the ways of evil. I can see how instinct was playing a big part in how the process Jean Valjean went through to come out different than when he first got into prison.

 

 Main Character, Jean Valjean. I see that Jean committed a crime for his and his family's survival. I don't like poachers, they're cruel.  I feel bad that Jean Valjean was only supposed to spend 5 years in jail. The way Jean Valjean had faced more bad ways of life has made me wonder how terrible it really must've been. this chapter made me realize how big world hunger really is.

 The bishop was filled with such confidence, it honestly surprised me. I don't why but it did. 

 Wow, what an ungrateful man. The jean guy really had something to say. If something like that happened to me, I wouldn't know what to say other than to feel total shock.

My Journal Entries

 It is kind of sad how cruel the prisoner was treated and how much he earned in 19 years. That's crazy.

I forgot that the Bishop never locks his doors. I feel like the people are overacting over the prisoner who is just trying to find a place to rest. Also, that cliffhanger got me like '-'

 One thing that has been on my mind ever since we started reading Les Mis is, How can the bishop be so selfless and forgiving? Surely there has to be something that will trigger him causing rage to run through his veins and/or body?

 -to seek the bounds of life sounds, a bit tiring. At least to me. -doesn't the massive amounts of kindness given by the Bishop overwhelm others

-I am not that surprised that there are many different types of bishops. -The one line where it says that we live in a gloomy society and I can't help but agree.  -Harem?

 - the hatred of luxury is something today's world still has around -political opinions seems to have had a big impact on a person's perspective

 The "sick" man was a little sassy. Ignorance and a tyrant, I think I can see the similarities. The fact that they were able to talk like humans was kind of cool. I never get to see that with Americans.  

   -first impression I think it is amazing that their bond with each other is something else. I can understand when she said that she knows what her brother needs without him needing to speak because I too have brothers of my own and when I am closest to the one who is 20, I can easily understand him as we have wen through similar experiences. It is a certain part of a bond that not many can explain.

 I don't know how I am typing with my hands shaking. It's almost 8:50 pm and I'm monitoring the election results. As of right now, Biden has 70% of the votes even though the state has 52% votes reported in California.  9:03 pm update: One thing I noticed was that California really helped Biden get many more electoral votes :D

      a) Something about LES MIS that I like so far is how the author portrays certain words to show foreshadowing and certain meanings.      b) Three techniques Victor Hugo used in LES MIS that made it effective are Connotation , Characterization , and Syntax .  CONNOTATION = This technique allowed me to see certain parts of the book where it implied foreshadowing CHARACTERIZATION = This technique allowed me to understand certain aspects of the words that indirectly described the bishop SYNTAX = This technique made me see that it's okay to have run-on sentence as long as they make see sense

First impression what in the heck, the drunk was rude but it was pretty interesting to see what he had to say. God, isn't good? Also, Gilded? Like the bible sometimes is? That man sounds creative with his words.

 -The fact that the Bishop has a lot of faith in God is a bit surprising to me -I like that almost everyone was trying to convince the man to not go by himself

 - WHAT? this man is kind of crazy lol. -I understand that this bishop has almost close to no fears -the bishop is one to sacrifice his own things for others in need of help
